It’ll be worth it though :) I’m so proud. Even though im just a sister :p

June 7 -- Chicago!

I’ve only ever been to Chicago in January and February before…gotta say, its a completely different and much nicer city when you can go outside without your face hurting. It’s great to see my brother again!

This night we saw a production of Arcadia, which my parents and I read before coming out here. It was great, and a lot of fun. I”m going to see another production of it in Seattle the weekend of the 30th :-p but I”m not sick of it, it’s a fantastic play. I love Tom Stoppard.

June 6

The day before I leave for Chicago!!! Shows how out of it I am

For the past few entries I wrote “July” instead of “June.” Just one of the many symptoms of brain rot…I didn’t realize I was in the wrong month until I got to Independence Day adn there were no fireworks.

Today I”m legitimately housebound, since my Dad’s in Philly and my mom took the other car to work. So I guess I have no choice but to find entertainment at home…meaning, online. I don’t even want to think about the amount of time I spend on the Internet.

Fri, 08 Jun 2007 I can find online :) My mom’s been bugging me to do something productive, like pack…but I don’t leave til Thursday. Plenty of time.

The Internet is way more dangerous than TV. My brain and muscles are both turning into mush :p oh well, I’ll make up for it all wtih extreme productivity once I get to Seattle, right?

Fri, 08 Jun 2007 12:45:53 last night I stayed up ridiculously late angsting over Jim and Pam’s relationship. I really should always have a day job…otherwise I’ll just iron in front of my favorite soaps all day. Tragic.

As a result, I sleep late, and then probably stay up late watching more of the office again. The Internet is no longer a wonderful thing.

Fri, 08 Jun 2007 12:43:47 decide on the phone (my mother’s single criterion being how easy the buttons are to push, and my father’s that it would take a beating), and it took the Sprint people 1.5 hours to do all the paperwork for a new phone plan and phone upgrades. Soooo much paperwork! The actual technology is so simple…but the organizational requirements of a big company like Sprint add a lot of logistical problems.

Anyway, as we were waiting for the poor Sprint store workers to get through to some main Sprint base, I took my dad to the Apple store. He’s been going to the gym a few times a week (shaming me terribly :-p when your 65 yr old dad works out more than you do, you know it’s time to reorganize your life), and wants to be able to listen to his music while on the exercise bike.

I thought something like a nano would be good for him, since he could just link it with itunes and not worry about organizing his music. When we got to the store, though, we encountered 2 problems.

1) electronics have now become TOO small. He wanted something as physically big as the 80 Gig ipod, but he only needs 4 gigs of space, max.

2) Apple gives you so much bullshit in order to enforce copywrite law. My dad got so confused by the fact that you can only upload to the ipod, not download from it, and that you have to sync your ipod with your itunes library, necessarily located on one computer. Confusion aside, this system really is extremely inconvenient. Unless you’re very very careful, it’s too easy to lose your entire library. Only being able to get your music from one computer is also really annoying. We decided we were too good for proprietary constraints, so we’ll buy from someone else :-p

So 2 hours at the mall, and I came out with a new cell and 300 text messages/month. It should not have been that hard.

Sat, 02 Jun 2007 23:26:56 that I tried to track down a Sprint store to upgrade my old, cracked, and oversized cell phone, but the store nearest my house closed down in the past year!

Afterwards I met a couple friends at the Dave and Busters, which was actually a lot of fun. I had no idea their arcade games were so high tech :-p Now I want a real motorcycle…

Then I came back to let my family verify that I was still alive :-p and had dinner with them. Now I’m exhausted and ready to sleep forever…

billy goat trail

Here’s a makeup post for yesterday, since I didn’t have Internet access pretty much all day.

Instead, I communed with (read: got ridiculously lost in) nature on the Billy Goat Trail. I had hiked it last year with a few friends of mine, and we planned to do the same this year. It’s a beautiful 1.7 mile trail that runs along the Potomac river, and requires some fun rock-scrambling. Section A is the best part, and the one we headed for.

However, we somehow got onto trail B, and then trail C. Even this is loosely speaking, since we lost the trail a number of times. Our 1.7 miles turned into over five….and then we had to go back :-p Despite missing the cliffs of trail A, it was still a fun hike.

I went back to the house of my good friend from high school after that, and we hung out for the night. I ended up getting four hours of sleep there, and didn’t have time to blog! Clearly a sign I’m having fun — no time for Internet :D 2

…And hopefully the final day. I got new frames for my glasses (previously held together semi-successfully with a rubber band), clothes for work, and running shoes that aren’t run down. In college, it’s hard to maintain your life beyond basic subsistence. I’ve got the food down in college, and sometimes sleep, but waste my precious free time on shopping? Never.

Then again, I don’t want to waste my free time at home on it either, so I say again, hopefully this was the final day. Tomorrow I’m going to hike the Billy Goat Trail with some friends from home, so at least escape then :)

Now I have to catch the season finale of House. Yes, although I apparently have no time to fix my glasses, I have kept up with an inaccurate medical drama…. full day at home

Today was my first full day at home this summer. I love seeing my parents again, being where the air is warm and smells like honeysuckle, and not stressing about exams. The grading I have left to do from the intro CS course I helped teach this semester still haunts me, but that’s currently the only stress in my life. It’s fantastic.

I spent entirely too long today shopping with my mom, but I’ll be glad of it when I have decent clothes to wear in Seattle :D I wish it were mid-June now…

Mon, 28 May 2007 21:17:29
